OILSEED RAPE
Cruiser OSR: downy mildew, damping off, early phoma, alternaria, flea beetle, cabbage stem flea beetle, peach potato aphid.
Combined Fungicide and insecticide, has good fungicidal properties. Insecticide part (tmx) is based on the similar chemistry to Modesto but at a lower concentration of active ingredient so is possibly not as good at controlling pests. Indications are that this will be the most popular rape dressing this year albeit the most expensive.
Modesto: flea beetle, cabbage stem flea beetle, turnip sawfly, autumn aphids, TuYV and cabbage root fly.
Has the same chemistry as Deter dressings, very good and long lasting levels of pest control. No fungicide properties so needs to be co-applied with HY-PRO Duet. General feelings are that this will be the main insecticide for rape but might not be as popular as Cruiser this year.
HY-PRO Duet: early phoma, seed borne alternaria and damping off.
Fungicide only, covering primary diseases but no pest control so usually combined with an insecticide.
Chinook: flea beetle, cabbage stem flea beetle and reduces BWYV.
Insecticide usually combined with HY-PRO Duet aiding establishment by reducing pest and stem based pressures. A very competent insecticide but now being out classed by others on the market.
Winter Crop (Reformulated): seed/plant nutrient complex containing:- phosphorous 300g, potassium 198g, manganese 504g, sulphur 456g, magnesium 60g, zinc 18g and nitrogen 168g.
New formation last year, with increased amounts of nutrient. It’s a seed treatment complex with no issues regarding seed flowability etc. It aids establishment, plant vigour, stimulates root growth, improves soil nutrient uptake and increases plant green area significantly. Very popular on rape last year showing good effect in the field, indications from our customers are that it will be more widely used this year due to it’s results, increased nutrient levels and value for money.
CEREALS
Single Purpose Dressings (SPD): on Wheat: for seed borne Bunt, Septoria, Fusarium with some also covering Loose smut. Redigo, Rancona, Kinto and Beret Gold. SPD: on Barley: for seed borne Fusarium, Leaf stripe with some covering Loose smut and Net blotch. Raxil Star (New for 2011, replacing Raxil Pro), Kinto and Rancona.
Used as a low cost insurance against standard seed borne and stem based diseases.
Redigo Deter: (wheat and barley) (Raxil Deter-No longer available) covering all SPD targets plus insecticide for BYDV and reduced grain hollowing from slugs (mainly after rape) plus wire worm (after grass), leaf hoppers and gout fly.
Used increasingly by farmers that don’t have time to stop other fieldwork and spray for early BYDV and/or has a slug or other pest problem. It’s a target specific product, not just a blanket spray. It has also been independently proven that using Redigo Deter brings a greater yield response than a pyrethroid spray alone. (Once a farmer uses Redigo Deter they rarely go back to just a SPD).
Jockey: SPD plus early foliar diseases such as Yellow rust (Robigus, Oakley) and Brown rust (Alchemy) and a reduction in Take-all.
Very useful in first and second wheats for varieties susceptible to rusts, used far more last season than any year since it’s been available. Aids establishment, increases green area and root bio-mass for better anchorage of the crop, reduced lodging, better water and nutrient take up and produces thicker stems. All of which reduces stress in the growing plant, thus reducing take-all pressure in second wheats.
Austral Plus: Beret Gold + Evict (insecticide in new form).
Used for drilling where wheat bulb fly (after sugar beet) or wire worm (after grass) would be a problem.
Epona: SPD plus early foliar diseases such as Yellow and Brown rust (This is Jockey applied at 3 litres per tonne, not 4.5 litres per tonne)
Very popular and cheaper than Jockey. Everything Jockey does except take-all so mainly used on first wheats.
Galmano: early foliar diseases and Take-all, but with no SPD element it does not cover seed borne diseases.
Ideal partner for Redigo Deter giving early control of foliar and seed borne diseases plus insecticide for BYDV etc and Take-all. All bases covered in one go when put with Redigo Deter!
Tripod: seed borne diseases (as SPD), plus Blue mould, Mildew, Brown and Yellow rust.
Still popular, plants can be slower to emerge. Ideal for use on very early drilled crops. Good on varieties that get early foliar diseases, also has plant growth regulator properties. It has been said (but not claimed) that it has an effect on take-all.
Tripod Plus: as Tripod, plus an insecticide.
For farmers wanting the flexibility of Tripod and an insecticide for BYDV etc.
Latitude: Take-all
Primarily used on second wheats or second cereal crop grown in the same year eg winter wheat after spring wheat, helps to give yields close to that of first wheats. Has no other chemical properties so needs to be co-applied with a SPD/Redigo Deter etc.
Winter Crop (Reformulated): Same as the rape dressing, does the same things for cereals.
Has been put side by side with another product (mentioning no names!), with Winter Crop giving similar or better results for less cost to the farmer.
Manganese: contains manganese and sulphur.
Containing 150g Manganese, 80g Sulphur per litre. Applied at 3 litres per tonne. Used on oil seed rape for improving establishment. Also as a targeted micro-nutrient for cereals planted on deficient fields.
